Are You Following Your Purpose?

We’re in the last quarter of the year. This is the perfect time to reflect and finish the year off strong while concurrently developing your plan for next year.

We all have had a tough year. From businesses closing, deaths, racial tension, economic shifts and more, it has been a lot to take in. This was also a wake-up call to reevaluate our lives. Many of us were forced to slow down. “Essential” took on a new meaning and we learned quickly to appreciate those grocery store clerks we once looked down upon.

How did 2020 affect you? Given what you know now, are you still wanting to take the same route? Are you considering other options? What have you learned? What is something you changed as a result of the pandemic that you wish to maintain as our new normal evolves?

There was a saying I saw earlier this year that really resonated with the times, “we are not all in the same boat, but in the same storm”. This pandemic has impacted the entire world! For many the impacts have been drastically life-changing in a negative way, others have experienced some positive and for some, neutral. Either way, for once, we all have a slight similarity — rich, poor, black, white, gay, straight —- we have all been living through these uncertain days together.

As we prepare to close 2020, I challenge you to write down everything you’ve done this year. Write down where you made pivots. Write down what you still want to do. Overall, write out everything that revolves around you, and if you reached any of your goals. This alone will give you an overview of where you are personally.

Oftentimes, we like to beat ourselves up because we aren’t as far as we had hoped. This is not, nor is it ever, the time to talk down on yourself. If you aren’t where you want to be, or your goals have changed, pivot, and keep going. Give yourself grace while working towards your goals.

Write, yes saying this again, out your new goals. Set milestones on your way. This allows you to stay the course. When it’s all said and done, you’ll be happy you took the time to reflect and know you are heading towards greatness.
